Cookery School
The design of the Season Cookery School kitchen at Lainston House required careful planning and collaboration between Hobson’s Choice, Exclusive Hotels & Venues, contractors, and architects.
The goals were to create a functional teaching space while complementing the historical 17th century wheelhouse architecture. Hobson’s Choice' design team opted for bulthaup's contemporary b1 and b3 kitchen systems, valued for their adaptability, durability, and high-end finishes.
For the student cooking zones, a mirrored peninsula layout was implemented. This sociable design allows students to face each other, with centralized cooking stations featuring induction hobs, ovens, sinks and ample storage. Innovative solutions were developed, like a recessed Corian chopping board/waste chute and swivelling mixer taps for shared sinks. The layout provides easy access while maximizing workspace.
The chef's demonstration kitchen took a U-shaped form with a stainless-steel worktop that could withstand high cooking temperatures. Visibility and accessibility were priorities, with the prep area angled towards students. Separate fridges, freezers, water points and lighting created a professional staging area for the chefs. Throughout the design process, the team envisioned the practical needs of teaching and learning in a cooking school environment.
